Los Cochinos
Los Cochinos is an established Latin rock and Soul band, said by many to have been “passed the torch” from Carlos Santana as one of the few remaining Latin Rock and Soul bands that continue to create and perform original music in the style of Santana. Los Cochinos released “Los Cochinos” in 2017 and is currently working to complete their next CD titled "Patricia", in honor of Alfonso’s mother Patricia. The CD should be ready for release in 2024, in time for the outdoor concert season.
The band’s sound has been described as similar to that of Santana, El Chicano, War and Tower of Power. Alfonso’s melodic leads are unique and combine with Latin percussion as well as the sax and keys to create a unique, original Latin rock and soul sound; familiar, yet distinct. The band also includes some tasty covers that will keep you on the dance floor!
Los Cochinos have performed with El Chicano and many other notable bands and have developed a significant following throughout the U.S., and globally. The band features Alfonso Portillo on guitar, followed by the talented Donald Osborne on keyboards. Dynamic guitarist Raj Gopal holds down the groove on rhythm guitar. The solid Latin percussion section is led by Karl Perrazo (Santana) protege Tomas Montano on timbales and East Oakland’s own Miguel Martinez on congas. Out front on vocals and bass is the spectacular Darryl “Debo” Bishop. On sax is the fabulous Ric Alexander from Tony! Toni! Toné! Lorenzo "Lonnie" Macon is sensational on drums and vocals.
The ballad “Feel the Same” from the latest CD "Los Cochinos" has been a hit song for the band and receives strong listener support on major distribution sites as well as radio play in California markets.
